Sprague's Pipit.  Baird’s Sparrow.  Leconte’s and Nelson’s Sharptail Sparrows.  Chestnut Collared Longspurs.  See them.  Hear them.  And check them—and some 320 other fascinating species of birds-- off your life list.

We’ve made it easy to go where the birds are!  Our six birding drives will take you to remote birding hotspots amid sweeping grasslands, rolling woodlands, wooded draws and diverse marshlands.

You’ll see why this very special stretch of the Prairie Pothole Region in North Dakota was listed in two bestselling books:  “Fifty Places to Go Birding Before You Die: Experts Share the World's Greatest Destination's" and the New York Times bestseller, "1000 Places to See Before You Die: A Traveler's Life List."

Yes, we have become a worldwide destination.  Come drive our drives, and you’ll see why!

RE:  North Dakota birding trips

If you are planning a birding trip to North Dakota in 2012, there are a few things you should know to help with your planning. The oil boom in western ND continues everywhere west of US Hwy 83. It is often very difficult to get a motel room in Minot, Williston, or Dickinson. In the smaller towns it is impossible. Also, renting cars can be difficult much of the time. You should be trying to get reservations now if you plan to come this spring or summer. Truck traffic in the west is very heavy, so be careful if you are birding in this area. The refuge trails that were flooded last summer were reopened in the fall, so access looks good at this point. We have no snow cover over most of the state. Come see western ND now, before it is gone.
